History of Kalayanappara

History

The famous holy river Periyar originates from the western Ghats and is aligned with our Heritage farms.
The Holy Seer Shri Sankaracharya was born on the banks of Periyar, in the village of Kaladi. Our Farm is next to legendary 'kalayanappara'(wedding rock) where its believed that a wandering Sage married a tribal woman on an auspicious(based on Planet positions) time. The 18 km long mountain range running along from Idukki dam to Kattappana is also known as Kalyana stem or Bar based on this legend.
There are many myths around the Idukki dam, built in 1970, which is the second biggest Arch dam in Asia.
We can view Palkulamedu(milky meadows) from our Farm where the towering and fearsome Bheema, one of the Pandava brothers, stood surveying his route.
Heritage Farm has a serene and tranquil ambience most suitable for a harmonious retreat.
